People who are poorer have always tried to imitate the powers that be.

Of course, this character has its roots in Ancient Russia, to those times when merchants were born, when the traditions of this estate began to take shape. And A.P. Chekhov simply noticed the ridiculous side of the event that existed before him. The talent of the writer made this image and everything connected with it so interesting that some attribute it to the creation of this character.
