In 1975, Sydney breeders decided to create a new cat breed that would be close to burmese. But she should have been different from her in the spotty color of the tiki. The work lasted for five years. As a result, in January 1980, the first kittens were born , which could be confidently called descendants who took the best from their ancestors. From burmese - the main genetic material - they inherited a slender physique. From Abyssinian cats - ticking. And outbred individuals with a “tabby” color gave a characteristic color and good health. Since 1998, the breed received its official name: Australian Smoky Cat (Australian Mist). At the moment, it has been recognized by WCF, NZCF, CCCA and ACF.
Spotted smoky cat - a breed of short-haired, moderately oriental. Its representatives must certainly have a ticked color. But the suit can be only seven colors: brown, blue, chocolate, caramel, gold, peach or purple. The body of such a cat is muscular, medium in size. Feet not too long and thin, with small round pads. The standard requires the coat to be loose against the body. On the obtuse muzzle with soft features, slightly slanted eyes shine with a yellow-golden iris . The ears are medium, with rounded ends. Gives a representative of the breed and a clear light undercoat on his stomach.
A distinctive feature of the breed Australian Smoky is its multifaceted color. It is he who makes the myst recognizable. The main suit, as a rule, is lighter than the ticking pattern. The latter should be uniform. And on top of the back and sides comes an invisible mantle - a smoky blanket that opens its paws and stomach. The tiki pattern can be either spotted or marbled.
But it should be said that the full "disclosure" of an amazing coat color occurs only towards the end of the second year of an individual's life. Despite this circumstance, the Australian smoky breed is considered very expensive. This is not surprising if we take into account the fact that it is still not widespread in the countries of the Old World and is mainly popular on the Green Continent. Females are valued higher than gentlemen.
The temperament of the Australian smoky cat is sociable. She equally loves all homeworkers, doesn’t play strangers, loves to play with children. Mist is an avid homebody and can easily lead a life without walking. The closed space does not bother him at all. Just as easily, he suffers loneliness in an apartment. But if the hosts decided to play with him, he would only be glad. Representatives of the breed are very tolerant of other pets, get along well with dogs and other cats.
Due to the fact that the breed is new and not widespread, it is difficult to talk about any hereditary diseases. So far, we can say that they have not been identified. One can only hope that the rootless tabby, who took part in the formation of the Australian smoky breed, brought a powerful charge of vitality to its genotype. Caring for such cats is not particularly difficult. Short hair should be combed out with a special mitten.
