Where did the holiday come from?
Scandinavia is considered the birthplace of such a "young" holiday as the Day of an Elderly, from where he came to Europe almost three decades later, then to America. Only since the end of the 80s of the last century it has been celebrated all over the world, after the UN General Assembly officially established the holiday on December 14, 1990 . Since then, every year October 1 marks International Day of Retirees.

It is impossible not to mention that its appearance was preceded by the 2nd World Assembly in 1982. It adopted the Vienna International Plan of Action and the Political Declaration, which were to serve as a kind of signal to society to reconsider their attitude towards older fellow citizens. So far, the difference in the material situation between senior citizens in the West and in the Russian Federation remains insurmountable.
