Laminated cardboard. Description, types, advantages

The paper industry is constantly improving its technology, releasing new, better products. These products include laminated cardboard, which occupies a strong position in the market.

Description

Laminated cardboard is a type of material coated with a special smooth layer that enhances its quality characteristics.

Thick paper is processed on a special device - a roll laminator (on an industrial scale) and a batch laminator (on the territory of the organization).

Lamination is the process of applying the thinnest film layer, which gives the cardboard water-repellent and protective properties, increases its shelf life, and also improves its appearance.

For example, before, plastic dishes were in great demand, due to their cheapness and practical characteristics. But today cardboard ware is gaining more and more popularity. It is more expensive, but has several advantages over plastic:

  • Safe and non-toxic. When heated, does not emit toxic substances.
  • The possibility of reuse is excluded. Cardboard has high absorbent properties compared to plastic, so its reuse is impossible.
  • The material does not heat up and does not deform from high temperatures, unlike plastic.

Varieties of laminated cardboard

Laminated cardboard

Types of coating - different in thickness, can be as follows:

  • Matte finish. For example, disposable tableware, gift boxes, decorative designs and structures, etc. Suitable for applying inscriptions, drawings, logo. The applied drawings, inscriptions on such a coating look more expensive, more presentable and do not give out glare.
  • A glossy coating (a thin layer of plastic film is applied) is also used in packaging products, for example, perfumes, the production of gift bags, substrates, etc. Thanks to this coating, the printed images look brighter and more attractive.
Gift wrap

In addition, laminated cardboard with metallized film is in great demand . Such a coating enhances the protective and water-repellent properties, gives it a more presentable appearance. Due to the variety of colors, such cardboard is used in the packaging of confectionery , cosmetic products, gifts. High density cardboard allows you to keep warm longer.

Lamination of material happens:

  • Hot - during processing, at a certain temperature, an adhesive layer is activated.
  • Cold - layers tightly pressed against each other.

Cardboard coating can be two-sided and one-sided. Double-sided is used in the manufacture of packaging for hot products, one-sided - for cold.

Production

Roll lamination

Laminated cardboard is made from recycled materials (waste paper or cellulose). Layers of paper are densely pressed together, then a layer of polyethylene is applied. Laminated cardboard is available in sheets or rolls.

Such packaging has long established itself as an environmentally friendly, safe, high-quality, economical analogue to plastic. The lamination process makes cardboard a universal material that has no analogues.
