Recently it has become very fashionable to maintain aquariums. And today we will talk about the popular inhabitants of the glass dwelling - ampoules. In the article, we will talk about what kind of creatures these are, how to care for them, and how to feed snails .

There are many legends about this species, and how many names have stuck with it! And a "mustachioed nanny", and "apple", and "golden". In a word, it is not easy. But what is so outlandish about her?

snail ampoule

Snail ampoule is native to South America, and in the twentieth century appeared in Europe. Such snails are distributed mostly in tropical countries. In the natural environment, they inhabit mainly standing and slow-flowing water bodies.

In nature, their shells are pale brown with dark stripes. The overall color varies from light to dark, however, surprisingly, the most popular albinos. Escaping, the snail ampoule closes the horn cap.

Another interesting feature of this mollusk is its ability to use oxygen from both water and air. Due to this, they can freely move on land and even lay eggs there.

The snail ampullarium is quite large: the size of its shell reaches 7-8 centimeters. Despite its size, it moves very quickly. By the way, she has a rather acute sense of smell, which allows her to instantly feel the appearance of food.

Aquarium snails ampularia are almost omnivorous. Obviously, in nature they are content with vegetation, but in the aquarium they would not mind eating fish food of animal origin.

Compared to other types of snails, they are of course nimble, but they cannot compete with fish in any way, therefore they often remain hungry, which means that they should not be kept in an aquarium with expensive vegetation. And the sizes do not really allow, snails simply break plants.

There is another alternative - feed the ampoule with food unsuitable for fish, for example, carrots or fresh cucumbers. In a word, these mollusks are extremely unpretentious. The only thing that can harm them is soft water, which destroys their shells.

They are great for tropical aquariums, where the optimum water temperature is +20 degrees Celsius. At too high a temperature they behave more actively, more often reproduce. By the way, with regard to the determination of sexes: the cochlea ampullaria is heterosexual, and the determination of sex is a complex matter. Therefore, if you want to see the offspring of your pets, then you need to get them at least three. But keep in mind that only 10 clams are allowed per 10 liters of water.

It should be noted that they tolerate the neighborhood with fish remarkably. Small, peaceful fish do no harm to them, if only they are hungry, they can pull them by their antennae. But the mollusks quickly adapt to this.

If you decide to replenish your aquarium with ampoules, be careful with the treatment of the fish living in it. Many drugs can be fatal to ampullarium.

That's all, actually! As you see, such a pet will not bring trouble, but, on the contrary, will be a spectacular addition to the aquarium. And, eating the vegetation on its walls, will be an excellent "cleaner".
