What is angora (tissue)?

There are things that remain loved even when drifted to holes. They feel special warmth and comfort. Some woolen products from angora belong to this category. Not everyone understands what it is, so try to explain.

The main characteristic

Angora - a fabric made of fluff of a special breed of Angora goat or Angora rabbit. Initially, only goat wool was introduced into production, which was imported from Turkey, but could not widely take root in new territories. Then the breeders brought out a unique shaggy rabbit, from the wool of which it was possible to pluck the fluff to create Angora yarn.

angora fabric

Angora is a fabric that is named after the Turkish city of Ankara. But, since it was more difficult to raise Turkish goats than rabbits, and the popularity of things from soft fluff did not fall, today goat hair is marked with the WM symbol and is called a mohair. And the fabric from the fluff of rabbits received the marking WA and the name "Angora".

Fabric structure

Angora fabric, which includes wool, viscose, polyester or acrylic, is widely used for sewing women’s dresses, sweaters, cardigans and skirts. Sometimes in production they use not synthetic fibers, but other types of woolen threads. Various additives are necessary to improve performance, since angora itself is a whimsical fabric. In addition, the use of synthetic and natural additives can reduce the price of fabric. Pure fiber from Angora fluff has a fairly high cost.

The fluff of the Angora rabbit is mainly white or gray, black specimens are less common. Downy hair can have a length of up to fifteen centimeters, although there are specimens with a hair length of 30 cm. Due to their hollow core, the fibers allow you to create a very light and incredibly warm fabric. You can recognize the fabric with an admixture of Angora fluff by typical hairiness.

Does the fabric have flaws?

Angora is a fabric that has a number of advantages. These include softness and lightness. And the fabric is fluffy and comfortable, very pleasant to the touch. The undeniable dignity of things from Angora is their warmth. Even a thin blouse or sweater perfectly warm on a cold day.

But it was not without drawbacks either. Unfortunately, angora peels off. This process continues even with the most careful care. The blame for the amazing silkiness of the fibers. They are so smooth and soft that they gradually fall out of yarn. This, by the way, is one of the reasons why other types of fibers are added to the fabric.

How to care for the fabric?

Of course, care should be taken not for the fabric itself, but for products from it. And here another flaw is manifested, which greatly complicates the care of things. The fact is that angora cannot be washed, not even just washed, but generally wet. Things must be protected from rain so that they do not deteriorate. Therefore, the main care is a timely visit to dry cleaning. Although some housewives claim that you can refresh your favorite thing from angora with a hand wash with shampoo and glycerin. But manufacturers do not agree with them, so do not take risks, it is better to use the services of professionals.

What buyers say

Angora fabric, reviews of which are certainly expressed by the owners of products from it (you can hear them right in the stores), sells very well. The fact is that our winters are cold, and things from this fabric carefully warm. That is why store shelves always have warm coats and sweaters, dresses and sweatshirts, and even socks from angora have recently appeared. And all this is bought up with the onset of cold weather.

And a lot of reviews leave allergies. For them, things from Angora become a real salvation, because, unlike synthetics, they do not cause a negative reaction of the body. It also contributes to the popularity of the fabric.
