Dogs are true friends of man for many centuries. They accompany their masters everywhere, share with them joys and sorrows, work and rest. And here service dogs are a special group of these animals, aimed at performing certain specific functions, to help a person. To do this, they must have a number of qualities that not all breeds can boast of.
Service dogs
Usually these are large, strong and strong animals, capable of long work, movement over long distances. They are tireless, obedient and quick-witted. Any breed of long-haired service dogs, as well as smooth-haired, requires proper training and long walks, and other types of physical activity are also useful for them. They will be devoted to their master and learn to fulfill all his wishes. However, dogs of this purpose are unlikely to fawn and curl between their legs. They are serious and severe, always ready to fulfill the task, to protect their beloved master and his property.
Breeds
When talking about service dogs, the representative of this direction, a German shepherd known for many films, comes to mind first of all. It can be both long-haired and short-haired. The scope of these dogs is very vast. They can be found in specialized troops (for example, at the border), they can also serve as guides and guard the herds. These animals show miracles of endurance and quick wits. And the most famous breed of long-haired service dogs is, perhaps, a collie. Cinema also brought her fame. Especially popular is the film called "Lassie." Of course, it does not directly see the purpose of this dog as a watchman, hunter or shepherd, but an outstanding mind and endurance are perfectly shown.
Another breed of long-haired service dogs that is widely known is the St. Bernard. These large and not-angry animals work as lifeguards in the most difficult weather conditions, helping (thanks to tirelessness, endurance and excellent scent) to save the lives of people in critical situations. The large slobbering face of St. Bernard is so expressive that it will not leave anyone indifferent. But the villains will go around the house where such a watchman lives, the farthest road.
Noteworthy is another breed of long-haired service dogs - Newfoundland. This large animal comes from Canada, where it was considered by fishermen to be an indispensable helper, even in the conditions of a piercing cold wind. They can be excellent rescuers, not only on land, but also in water. Representatives of this species are excellent swimmers, as well as strong and powerful hard workers, whom you can rely on in the most difficult situations. They will help to carry the load, as they once helped their fishing owners to get full nets, they can even work as sled dogs. Despite the sometimes frightening appearance, all these dogs are completely not aggressive towards the owners, obedient, can be faithful and reliable friends not only to adults, but also to children.
There are many specialized literature and sites where you can view the dog breeds alphabetically and study their basic qualities. And then make the right choice of the pet that is best suited for a particular family or a specific purpose.
