Is it possible to imagine cooking without spices? And cosmetology, medicine? Definitely not!
Spices, as you know, have always been expensive. So expensive that they became an incentive for the most dangerous travel around the world or even an occasion for war and strife. Now, most aromatic herbs and rare seasonings can be purchased without any problems, if you have to go after them, then only to the nearest store or market.
Any housewife in the kitchen cabinet has a lot of bags and pouches with spices in store. Without going into the history of origin, methods of application and other information about our favorite “roots and tips”, today we will talk about in which containers to store this delight for our taste buds. Spices and now are not so cheap as to let this issue drift.
Many keep spices on hand, that is, near the stove, but capricious aromatic herbs and ground spices are afraid of heat. They must be stored in the pantry or in the kitchen cabinet away from the work area and hot places.
Most often, seasonings are sold in bags, neat and beautiful, but completely unsuitable for long-term storage, because after opening the package can not be closed tightly enough. As a result, the essential oils from spices disappear, they lose their taste, aroma and their inherent valuable properties. The easiest way is to pour them into spice jars - glass, tin or plastic, with a tight-fitting lid.
Light and moisture are harmful to spices, so it is desirable that the containers are opaque and hermetically sealed. Wooden and ceramic jars for spices are usually not very tightly corked, so they are not suitable for long
- term
storage of seasonings. Best of all, this odorous abundance is stored in small bottles of dark glass. Different sizes of coffee, baby food, and vitamins containers are ideal for this purpose. Homemade spice jars decorated with fantasy are functional, beautiful and can even decorate the kitchen with their own look. In order not to confuse seasonings, it is better to sign the jars using special stickers. Or is there another good idea - cut out labels with the name from the packaging bags and attach them to the jar using a transparent tape. If you have the desire and time, you can do more complex design, using a variety of decor techniques: decoupage, vintage, stamping.
Spice jars on magnets look spectacular in the kitchen, and to realize this idea is especially simple if the kitchen already has something made of stainless steel. If flat magnets (or special magnetic paper) are glued to the bottom or lids of the cans, they will hold well on the metal plane, for example, on the side surface of the refrigerator. It will turn out not only convenient, but also a stylish decoration for the kitchen. Spice jars must be signed in order not to accidentally confuse turmeric with curry.
Storing spices is, of course, a good thing, but creating large stocks is not worth it. Fresh spices are still better. It makes sense to make smaller jars for spices.
If you take a
wooden bar, ordinary laboratory test tubes and corks, then you can make a stand for storing seasonings in small quantities. In the bar, you need to make holes of the corresponding diameter and use the corners to attach it to the wall. Put on the
rubber sealing rings on the tubes
, insert them into the holes and ... voila - the original stand is ready. Even faster, mini-jars are obtained from Tik-Taka boxes. Pour the spices, sign the lid, put in a suitable box - and in the drawer of the kitchen cabinet. Convenient, and take up little space.
And finally, another tip. Pouring the next seasoning into a jar, indicate the date, and at the same time take an interest in the shelf life of each of them, so as not to guess in the future whether spices are still suitable or have already "died".
