Experiments on the interaction of polymer compounds from petroleum products and anthracites were carried out in various countries around the world at the very beginning of the last century. Initially, the amide group polymers were synthesized in 1932 by American scientists. The resulting experiment material was called nylon. However, later, six years later, a similar material, called perlon, was obtained in Germany. In 1942, Soviet scientists also received material similar in characteristics to nylon - it was kapron.

So what is kapron? Kapron fibers have increased wear resistance characteristics: they have a high threshold for wear, bending, compression and tension both in dry and in wet form. They also have increased resistance to solvents and chemicals such as alkalis. However, they have low stability when interacting with concentrated acids, they dissolve in cresol, as well as phenol. Kapron is sensitive to high temperatures, it becomes soft at 175 0 and melts at 215 0 .

One of the main advantages of kapron over other fibers (including natural) is its strength. So, for example, kapron is stronger than silk. However, it has other characteristics:

In 1948, kapron began to be produced on an industrial scale, it was widely used in the textile industry and became a very popular material, especially in everyday life. Products made of kapron began to come into fashion, stockings, sweaters, skirts, as well as all kinds of decoration elements for clothes became very popular. All this contributed to the fact that soon kapron began to displace cotton and became a serious competitor to silk. From it began to produce underwear, curtains and other products. Due to his qualities, many fashionistas preferred him, preferring to replace them with more natural fabrics. In the mid-sixties in the Soviet Union began production of fabric "Bologna", which was created on the basis of nylon fiber. Raincoats, jackets and coats were made from it.

Now kapron is mainly used where it requires increased strength and resistance to moisture. It is used in the manufacture of filters or packaging materials.
