Grease nipple: types, application, principle of operation

A grease nipple is a rather important product that is actively used in the manufacture of equipment, special machines and automobiles. Its main purpose is oil supply and the prevention of friction at the connection points indiscriminately. Read more about the above product.

Lubricator - what is it?

grease nipple

The above product is a kind of part that is part of the design of the pump. The grease nipple is also an addition to bearings, which are characterized by the use of grease or special oil.

In its configuration, the above part is a check valve. It is installed on the lubrication channel of the pump. Also, this valve can be mounted in the bearing cap. With the help of a grease fitting, oil is supplied for lubrication to friction units, which are located in rather inaccessible places. To disassemble the structure for this is no longer required.

The above product consists of the following parts:

  • spring;
  • housing;
  • steel ball.

The latter acts as a valve. It locks the channel or passes grease. Experts note that the above product also protects the lubrication channels of the equipment from clogging.

Types of Above Products

Domestic manufacturers offer the following types of products on the market for such parts:

  • angled grease nipple (the angle of inclination between the threaded and the filling ends is 45 and 90 degrees);
  • threaded straight product;
  • nipple smooth straight for mounting.

European manufacturers have some other classification of these products. They also produce them in three types (A, B, C). In addition, the angular grease nipple is divided into two separate types: “B” - the angle of inclination between the threaded and the filling ends is 45 degrees, and “C” - this figure is 90 degrees.

The screwed part of the above product has a tapered thread. This is done to seal the threaded connection.

Specialists note that the above products may differ among themselves by the diameter of the screwed part.

Some manufacturers apply a special anti-corrosion coating to the grease fittings : zinc or cadmium. It should be noted that the above products are made of the following materials: brass, stainless steel or ordinary steel.

Greaves - what is it?

Grease nipples, which are designed to supply the thickest grease, carry the above name. By applying a syringe with a special tip, the lubricant is injected into the grease fitting.

The head of the latter may have a different diameter: 22, 16 or 10 mm. Accordingly, the tip for the oil syringe is selected according to the above sizes.

Greaves are made of stainless steel or brass. Then, to ensure reliable anti-corrosion properties, a special zinc coating is applied to it.

The principle of operation of the above product

grease gun syringe

When filling grease, use a special syringe. For a grease fitting, a lever or rod type is more suitable. Under the pressure of the lubricant, the ball of the above product releases the spring. The result of this is the opening of the lubrication channel, into which lubricants must be passed.

It should be noted that syringes from some manufacturers are equipped with a convenient plunger handle lock. The latter is designed to fill the syringe manually. A special powder wear-resistant coating is applied to the syringe body.

After refueling, the spring straightens, and the ball returns to its original position. About 20,000 cycles is the minimum resource of the above products.

A grease nipple is an important part that is widely used in the machine-building and automotive industries.
