The kid pleased you with the first word and has already taken his first steps. And, it seems, he is already so independent and adult that he is quite ready for such an important stage of development as accustoming the child to the potty. And if earlier our mothers and grandmothers tried to reach this stage as quickly as possible so as not to wash a bunch of linen daily, then modern parents are increasingly waiting for the moment when the child realizes the importance of using the pot himself. This is not surprising - we live in an era of disposable diapers and automatic washing machines, so we don’t get tired every day from washing children's clothes.
Traditionally, teaching a child to a pot starts at the age of 1.5 years. But when it ends, no one can predict. All children are completely different: someone will spend just a week on potty training, and someone will learn a new skill within a few months. The thing is that the age when parents accustom the baby to the potty should be in full accordance with its development. Here are a few criteria that indicate that learning is really time to start:
- the baby rises dry after a day's sleep;
- the baby is able to stay dry for 2-2.5 hours;
- makes certain signs that indicate that he should go to the toilet;
- the child likes to do everything "how big."
If any 3 points are fulfilled, then the baby is quite ready to master this new stage of development for him.
Next, you need to decide on the method by which you will teach your child to potty:
1. The method of planting at the same time (up to a year).
Suitable only for those babies whose stool is regular, and mom knows after what procedures and at what time he will need to use the toilet. For example, he needs to do this immediately after eating or before going to bed. However, this method will not be suitable for those parents whose children have irregular stools.
2. Planting method for 5 - 10 minutes (up to one and a half years).
Also suitable for those who empty their intestines regularly and in many ways resembles the method described above. But if in the first case the child is not on the pot for a long time, then here he spends 5 to 10 minutes on the pot, and now his task is not to reflux urine or feces, but to understand what adults want from him.
3. Sound notification method (up to two years).
This method is perhaps for the most patient parents. Its essence is that the child informs what he needs on the pot with the help of a sound or a simple word. It must be used in conjunction with the first method, with the difference that every day after planting, ask the child the next time to inform if he wants to use the toilet. At this age, the child is already able to understand a lot, so you can explain to him that if he goes to the pot, then the tights on it will remain dry.
There is no standard method for quickly accustoming a child to a pot that would suit everyone equally. And you need to remember about the promotion - after a year the child understands the praise and he is pleased to please his mother.
There are also situations when a baby who has already learned to use the potty suddenly starts acting up, expresses displeasure and starts walking in his pants again. As a rule, parents in this situation are absolutely confused and cannot understand what caused the loss of skill. But in fact, the skill has not been lost, and the problem may lie in another reason, for example, in hard feces. If defecation caused the baby pain, he will try to avoid it in the future. If the child is old enough, you can try to explain to him that there will be no more pain because he drank the medicine. In such a situation, patience will be required, and your negative shout “well, you know how!” only exacerbate the situation.
And in any case, teaching a child to the potty should be carried out calmly, without forcing him or scolding, that sometimes he forgot and wet his pants. This is very important so that the baby does not form negative emotions in the pot.
