XBOX DVR is a proprietary service from Microsoft, which is built into the Windows 10 operating system. It serves as an assistant for gamers: it adjusts game optimization, allows you to interact with the XBOX console, record videos, take screenshots and much more. However, most gamers do not like this service due to the high load on the system. Even in the case when you do not use the overlay and DVR functionality, it continues to work in the background and "eat" precious computer resources. If the influence of this service is not noticeable on the most powerful configurations, then on weak PCs you will have to disable XBOX DVR. In this article, you will learn how to do this in four different ways.
All ways
The standard functionality of Windows 10 allows you to manage almost any application or service in several ways. The user himself has the right to choose whether to leave him background processes or to make life easier for the computer. To disable the XBOX DVR in Windows, you need to use one of the presented tools:
- proprietary application XBOX;
- command line;
- special program;
- registry editor.
Consider all 4 options in detail.
Disable through the application
This software is installed by default in any version of the Windows 10 operating system. To use it, follow the instructions provided:
- First, find the executable file or application shortcut. By default, it is located in the Start menu in the right pane. If it is not there, then use the search bar and enter XBOX.
- To use the utility, you need a Microsoft account. If you do not have one, then register. In the main window, click on the side menu icon and go to "Settings".
- In the "DVR for games" tab, turn off the slider and exit the application. Now the software will not work in the background.
You can disable the XBOX DVR in this way only if you have not updated the operating system to the latest versions. If you have a "fresh" OS, you will have to completely remove the application. You will learn about this below.
Disable through the registry
The second option does not require a Microsoft account. To access the editor you need:
- Run the Run window (Win + R).
- Enter the Regedit command and run its execution.
- In the editor window that appears, find the GameConfigStore branch, which is located in HKEY_CURRENT_USER.
- In the right half of the window, select the GameDVR_Enabled parameter and set 0 in the value field.
- Now open Policies \ Microsoft \ Windows and create the AllowGameDVR parameter with a zero value.
- Save the changes, restart the computer.
This option also works for older versions of the Windows 10 operating system. Now let's look at methods suitable for new updates.
Disable on the command line
To disable the XBOX DVR through the command line, use the following instruction:
- We open the command line in a convenient way: search, the "Run" window with the cmd command and so on.
- After that, enter the powershell command and press the Enter key to apply.
- Then enter the line Get-AppxPackage * xbox * | Remove-AppxPackage and apply again.
- Now the XBOX DVR is completely removed, and you just have to restart your computer and check the success of the operation.
Third party programs
Disable XBOX DVR through removal will also help special programs. For example, CCleaner, which has an uninstall feature for applications. To do this, open the tab "Service" - "Uninstall programs." In the list of installed software, find the XBOX services and click "Uninstall" one by one, highlighting each of them.
There is also a special tool called Windows 10 Default App Remover, which specializes in completely removing standard tens services and applications. You just need to run the utility and click on the name of the XBOX application, after which the program will do everything on its own.
Now you know how to disable the XBOX DVR or remove it completely from the computer. The second option should be resorted to only if you are not going to use games from the Microsoft Store.
