Windows symbol table: description, search, use

Many users have heard of a service called the Windows Symbol Table. What it is? What is it for? How to open it? We have to answer all this further. As practice shows, this service can be extremely useful, especially when typing.

Description

The Windows symbol table is a Windows service that contains a variety of symbols. Using this utility, the user can insert special characters into text documents, even those that are not on the keyboard panel.

The dialog box that opens includes:

  • type of font (a set of characters and their interpretation depends on it);
  • function buttons "Copy" and "Select";
  • character string (the selected character is displayed in it);
  • a line of codes (Unicode and Alt-codes for fast typing).

If desired, you can open the "Advanced Options", but in practice, users do not.

This will require:

  1. Open the Windows symbol table. We will talk about how to do this later.
  2. Find in the menu that appears the user’s desired character.
  3. Double-click on the thumbnail of a sign. You can click on the corresponding picture once, and then click on "Select".
  4. Select the character in the "For Copy" line and press Ctrl + C, or simply click on "Copy".

Now you can open the text editor and paste the character with the command Ctrl + V or RMB + "Paste".





The mentioned service is often used to familiarize oneself with the Unicode characters or to search for Alt codes.

To cope with the tasks, the user will need:

  1. Go to the Windows symbol table and select one or another character.
  2. Look at the line at the very bottom of the window. Alt code will be written on the right, Unicode on the left.

That's all. Now you can use the combinations to print certain characters. For "Alt" codes you will need:

  1. Turn on the Nam Lock state.
  2. Hold Alt.
  3. Dial the code, seen earlier on the right side of the mentioned service.
  4. Want to use Unicode? Then the user needs:
  5. Enter the pre-filled Unicode at the print location of the character.
  6. Press Alt + H on the keyboard.

How to open Windows 7 character table? The classic method of finding the appropriate service is to enter through the function menu.

  1. Go to the "Start" menu item and expand the "All Programs" section.
  2. Click on the line "Standard".
  3. Make the transition to "Utilities".
  4. In the list that appears, click LMB on the inscription "Symbol Table".
