The troubles that sometimes happen in an apartment include a violation of the ventilation. And fatal odors in separate rooms are by no means the only problem that accompanies this small emergency.
A prolonged absence of exchange of air masses in the bathroom leads to the appearance of fungus on the joints between tiles (and the most expensive fungus super-resistant to fungi will only slightly delay the appearance of mold). In addition to darkening and greening of seams, MDF furniture begins to swell, poorly close, and then completely fall apart. And even the most delicious smells from the kitchen will be absurdly felt in the remaining rooms of the apartment.
All of these troubles are multiplied many times if there is an allergic person in the family. For fungus and mold are almost universal and very strong allergens.
The quality of the ventilation system depends primarily on the proper selection and installation of each of its individual elements.
Classification of ventilation grilles at the installation site
The internal ventilation grille with adjustable blinds, with fixed blinds and other options is a familiar element of the interior of our bathrooms and kitchens. The place of installation of such grilles is indoors.
External ventilation grilles, the sizes of which most often do not exceed 300 x 300 mm, come in all kinds of shapes and designs and are used to communicate the internal premises of buildings with outside air. They are mounted on walls, gables and other external elements of buildings.
Closing and opening ventilation grilles are optionally installed in buildings, the ventilation system of which is built a little differently. Such ventilation works on the principle of air flow from room to room. Having passed along the route defined by the project, the air eventually enters the exhaust ventilation grilles, the dimensions of which depend on the size of the building, and through them goes out.
How ventilation grills let air through
By the principle of skipping air masses, designs also differ.
The usual overhead ventilation grille is the simplest model. Blinds in such a system are made in a fixed pattern. This design does not allow changing or blocking the air flow. In some cases, it is such a system, whose undeniable advantage is the low price, that is optimal.
Ventilation grille with adjustable shutters allows a person to make adjustments to the operation of the hood. As a rule, a not very complicated parallelogram mechanism allows you to change the level of inclination of all blinds, while simultaneously opening or blocking the air flow at will. There are more sophisticated mechanisms in coaxial design.
There is an inertial design. The easiest option is when the blinds are in an upright position, completely blocking the flow of air under the action of gravity. In the absence of a pressure difference in the communicating cavities (rooms), the air flow is completely blocked, but as soon as the air starts moving, the blinds under its influence rise, starting the exhaust system into operation. Blinds can open in both directions or in only one, serving as a kind of valve.
Materials used in the manufacture
The ventilation grille with adjustable blinds or with fixed ones can be made of a wide variety of materials, depending primarily on the intended installation location.
The classic, of course, is plastic. This is due primarily to the practicality of this material. Plastic perfectly withstands any natural disasters, without fear of either heat or cold, it is remarkably mounted both by mechanical fasteners and adhesive compounds.
More expensive grill options are metal. A simpler and more practical option is aluminum. Lattices made of cast iron or bronze look beautiful and stylish on the facade of the cottage, but their respective cost.
Wood ventilation grills are now being used less and less. The choice of this material is most often due to decor considerations. This option looks harmoniously on a building made of round wood or a building decorated with a block house.
Ventilation grills: sizes and shapes
Designs of round (coaxial), elliptical, and other forms are not common. Ventilation grille with adjustable rectangular blinds is the most common and most practical option.
Dimensions of coaxial structures are determined by one digit - diameter. The dimensions of the rectangular grilles are the width and height. For example, here are a number of standard sizes of aluminum outdoor ventilation.
In order to avoid confusion when choosing a grille, one should take into account the fact that the landing size indicates precisely the geometric parameters of the product, and not the height and width of the opening. Therefore, when buying a ventilation grill, it is necessary to make an adjustment for the gap.
