Cat Chausie is considered to be one of the rarest breeds of domestic cats. Their breeding is limited to the American continent, while only a few people are engaged in it. Breeders who control the development of this breed are very careful to ensure that breeding animals do not fall into the hands of inexperienced breeders. The thing is that their crossbreeding is permissible only with ordinary shorthair cats and with Abyssinian.
History of breed origin
From time immemorial, wild cats loved to live close to human habitation. Often they climbed into abandoned houses. This was directly related to the fact that a large number of mice served as a source of food in the abandoned huts. Immediate proximity to humans increased the ability of wild cats to interbreed with domestic cats. Most of these hybrid animals are observed in the Middle East and Southeast Asia.
For a long period of time no one paid attention to crossbreeds running through the streets of Egypt. But once they did attract the attention of an American tourist, a cat lover. It was on his initiative that a project was launched to develop, on the basis of these strollers, a new, one might say, elite breed.
A breeding program that created the Chauzy cat breed began in the United States in late 1968. The program was based on domestic cats living in Egypt. Breeders, interested in unusual creatures that wonderfully combine the features of a wild and a pet, brought several cats to America. As a result of research, it was found that in the ancestors of the Chauzy even a bog lynx is listed. It was from her that the cat Chauzy received a lean body with well-developed muscles, strong limbs and large sizes. The breed was registered in the TICA registry in 1995. The official status was allocated in 2003.
Chausi (cats): breed description
This cat is almost twice the size of all other domestic cats. The athletic physique of an animal with large ears crowned with small tassels gives the impression of a small cougar, which is exactly what breed connoisseurs call their favorites. Distinctive features of the breed include the so-called false eyes, which are located on the back of the ears. These are small spots that resemble the shape of the eyes. Their purpose in the wild is to scare away enemies from behind. “I'm looking at you,” they say to those who approached the cat from the back.
Chausie is a cat with a large, massive head. Strictly defined angles of the cheekbones and a developed chin give the appearance of the animal pristine wildness. The eyes are large, almond-shaped, deep green or bright yellow. As expected in the animal kingdom, cats are more massive than cats, and larger in size. They can grow up to forty centimeters at the withers. The weight of animals can approach the mark of fourteen kilograms.
The long tail of the animal should be equal in length to two-thirds of the entire body of the animal.
Chausie cats, reviews of which can be heard from American cat lovers, attract attention primarily with special hair. The thick and dense short hair of these animals has an unusual silk sheen shimmering in the sun.
To date , the cat is presented in the following colors:
- The black.
- Silver.
- Ticked.
- Ticked Tabby.
Breeding chausi
It is very difficult to breed these moody animals. Chauzy is a cat whose price is quite high; it does not bring homogeneous offspring. Most often, she has completely ordinary, unremarkable kittens. Only occasionally breeders manage to get the desired result. In addition, most cats of this breed for genetic reasons are not able to reproduce offspring.
All of these circumstances in the aggregate became the reason that the cat Chauzi received the status of a rare and expensive animal that is difficult to breed.
Behavioral Features
The character of the Chauzy, a cat with a predatory gaze and the graceful body of a wild animal, amazes with its kindness. Representatives of this breed will gladly rub on the legs of their owners and purse them barely audibly, recalling their tender feelings, - breeders say this. These are very sociable animals, nevertheless, their wild roots make themselves felt - they are great lovers of hurdling. Without a doubt, they will master all the inaccessible places in the apartment: shelves under the ceiling, mezzanines and tall cabinets.
Wherever a Chauzy cat lives, she should feel freedom, it is advisable to provide her with active walks in the fresh air. Representatives of the breed are well to walk on a leash. With them, you can easily walk in the garden and in the park. The wild energy of the animal must necessarily find a way out. Otherwise, it is fraught with unpleasant consequences for the furniture in the apartment. This can be avoided by providing your pet with active games and walks.
Animals are very sociable. They willingly find a common language with children. Get along well with other cats and canine representatives. But you should not leave them alone with hamsters, parrots and other small animals. Hunting instincts will certainly prevail, and the Chauzy can very badly “play”.
Features of feeding a chauzy
The digestion of these cats deserves special attention. Breeders argue that this is a problem area of the breed, as animals have a tendency to overeat. Cereals are especially harmful to them. Therefore, do not feed the chauzy with industrial feeds containing a large number of them.
It is also necessary to ensure that the animals do not overeat - this tendency remained from their wild ancestors.
Exotic Pet Care
Caring for Chauzy wool is easy. It is quite enough to comb it with a massage brush once a week. Relatively calm, they relate to water procedures. However, do not abuse it so as not to wash out the natural fat on the skin of animals and not spoil the coat.
Health
In addition to the tendency to overeat and the poor perception of cereal crops, Chausie cats have excellent health. Apparently, animals got good immunity from their wild ancestors. They practically do not suffer from infectious diseases and do not catch a cold.
Nurseries
According to officially confirmed data, several states are engaged in breeding. These are Nevada, Arizona, Florida and California. Breeders of the breed are also registered in France. Unconfirmed sources of information report about the Russian nursery, located in the suburbs, and about the nursery in Ukraine.
Growing kittens
Growing Chausi kittens presents no difficulties. They do not require special care. All that is needed is to limit the amount of the daily diet and provide a little friend with games and entertainment. An interesting fact is that even heavily played Chausie babies do not scratch at all. Feeling human skin under the claws, they immediately hide them in pads and continue playing with a completely soft paw.
Summing up, we can say that, despite the rather high cost of kittens - it ranges from 8 to 20 thousand dollars, their purchase will bring many pleasant minutes to the house.
