Owners castrate their pets for a variety of reasons. Someone has to do this for medical reasons, someone resorts to this measure in the hope of influencing the behavior of the animal, and someone just wants to avoid unnecessary offspring. Whatever the reasons, after the operation you can not feed the dog, as before. It is necessary to use food for neutered dogs.
Castrated dog food
After castration, the animal's hormonal background changes and the metabolic rate decreases, so you should change the diet to avoid obesity. There are two options for
feeding dogs: natural (usually porridge with meat) and prepared feeds.
As a rule, natural feeding is unbalanced, since the basis of the diet of a dog, like any predator, should be meat, not cereal. After castration, such a diet will contribute to rapid obesity. If you want to feed your pet “natural”, you should increase the amount of protein and reduce the amount of porridge, you can partially replace it with vegetables.
Dry food for neutered dogs is much more convenient to use, since it is already balanced, and the owner only needs to give it to the pet according to the instructions, depending on the weight. All feeds are divided into several classes:
- Economy
- Premium
- Super premium.
- Holistic.
In addition, they can be dry and wet. Manufacturers have feed for different categories of pets. They are divided into groups according to the following criteria:
- The age of the animal.
- Dog size.
- The level of motor activity.
- Food for neutered dogs or allergies.
Dry and wet feed
Dry and wet feeds of the same brand can be combined in feeding. For example, in the morning give one option, and in the evening - the second. Wet foods are usually preferred by pets.
Economy-class food is the cheapest option, with poor digestibility. Its components are usually of poor quality. For example, meat-bone meal can be used instead of meat.
Premium and super premium feeds are the most popular with dog breeders, as they provide the pet with everything you need, and it is much cheaper than holistic-quality feeds.
Holistic feeds consist of ingredients suitable for human consumption. Their cost is two to three times higher than the price of a premium class, but this is the best that can be given to a dog.
Castrated Dog Food
After castration, hormonal changes occur, the animal is gaining weight. In specialized feeds, calories are reduced, poultry meat and a substance that accelerates the process of fat breakdown are used. Despite this, they are balanced, the pet gets everything you need. Their cost is about a third higher than that of standard finished feed.
Particular attention should be paid to the nutrition of small castrated dogs. They have an accelerated metabolism, and a small stomach does not allow a lot of food to be accommodated. Therefore, feed for castrated dogs of small breeds should, on the one hand, saturate the animal, on the other - prevent obesity.
Important to remember
If the dog has been neutered or sterilized, the owner must change its diet. About feeding dogs after surgery, you need to know the following:
- The calorie content of food should be reduced to avoid the accumulation of excess weight.
- Changes in the body do not occur immediately, so there is time to choose the right food.
- Ready-made feed divided into two versions: dry and wet. You can give both those and others, if they are of the same brand.
- It’s not necessary to buy dog food holistic, but it is better to refrain from eating economy class.
- Food for castrated small dogs should be appropriate for the characteristics of a small organism.
A balanced diet is the key to the health and long life of the animal, therefore its preparation requires a serious attitude from the owner.
