The white poodle is the oldest breed. It is believed that this is a descendant of the wire-haired French Pointing Dog and the Portuguese and Spanish Water Dogs. The result was a dog resembling a modern royal poodle. The first breed standard appeared in England in 1886, and in 1904 the German standard was published.
