What temperature can a child have before a year and how to measure it

A few days after the birth of the baby, his body temperature can be increased from 37 to 37.4 degrees. Then gradually the temperature in the child until the year is normalized in the range of 36.2-37 degrees. In order to determine the normal temperature of your child, measure it when he is healthy and calm, preferably several days at the same time. You need to do this three times during the day and record the results. In this case, with the illness of the baby, you can certainly determine that his temperature rises.

You can measure the temperature in the infant in the armpit, groin or rectum. You can use a dummy thermometer and measure the temperature in your mouth. Keep in mind that rectal temperature is half a degree higher than in the mouth and one degree higher than in the rectum. If the increase is very small, for example, the child’s temperature is 37, then this may not be a sign of the disease, this may well be an individual feature. A baby can have a fever if the baby is agitated, moves a lot, or simply from overheating.

With the disease, the temperature in a child up to a year should be measured 3 times a day, and if necessary, more often. The child’s body at the beginning of the disease can give a reaction in the form of fever, but, however, it can increase in the baby and under the influence of other factors: teething, overheating, response to vaccination, etc. However, if the baby has other signs of the disease, such as a runny nose, it is necessary to consult a doctor. When a baby's temperature rises to 37-38 degrees, this can be a protective reaction of the body. If the child tolerates it normally, then knocking it down is not recommended.

The temperature of a child up to a year above 39 degrees is already dangerous for him, as it can cause a cramp. Therefore, in this case, it must be reduced with antipyretic drugs. It is necessary to carefully monitor the baby, his general condition, does he have any other signs of the disease, how does he react to antipyretic? If the baby's temperature has not risen above 38.5 and the baby is responding normally to this, then it is not worth lowering it. With a further increase, it is worth giving the baby an antipyretic, which has in its composition paracetamol. With a decrease in temperature, the drug should be discontinued, with an increase, give the medicine again.

Should give the child to drink more water. If the child does not want to eat, then you do not need to force-feed him. It helps to ease the fever if you put a wet cloth on your forehead. Try to ventilate the room more often so that it has fresh air. It is advisable to have several types of thermometers at home. If the temperature in a child under one year old is measured in the armpit, then it is better to do this with a mercury thermometer. It should be kept for 5-10 minutes, after shaking to a mark of 36.0 degrees. However, it is not recommended to measure the temperature in the anus by them, since the baby can twitch, and a crashed thermometer injures him.

If you cannot hold the thermometer in the armpit of the child, then, putting the thermometer under his arm, take the baby in his arms and, hugging him, hold him in his arms until the necessary time passes. In the case of anal measurement, an electronic thermometer is most suitable . It quickly gives a result and is safer, at the end of the measurement it will give a warning signal. When measured in the armpit, it often does not show the correct result, since it does not provide tight contact with the body. For measurement in the anus, this thermometer fits perfectly. There are also temperature strips on the forehead, but they do not show exact numbers, but only indicate an increase in temperature.
