It was during this period - March 22 - that many countries around the world celebrate a wonderful holiday - World Water Day. In fact, in Russian it is called World Water Day. But, you see, the literal translation from the English phrase "World Day for Water" - World Water Day - sounds much more interesting, more romantic, or something.

This holiday was initiated by the United Nations with quite serious goals: to draw public attention to the importance of fresh water, the state of water bodies and the need to protect them.

Two-thirds of the surface of our blue planet are covered with water, but the vast majority of it is the salt reserves of the seas and oceans. Only about 2.5% is fresh water. Moreover, a third of them are hidden underground, and two-thirds rest in the ice captivity of icebergs. It is hard to believe, but if you add up the water of all rivers, streams, lakes and swamps, you get no more than one hundredth of a percent of the world's reserves of life-giving fresh moisture.

In addition, like all natural resources, this is distributed unevenly across the Earth. Desert and semi-desert regions account for the smallest part of the world's water supply. So, in the beloved CIS residents of Egypt, according to local residents, it rains every 4 years. If you happen to see him in this African country, this is a happy omen.

It is interesting that in the last century the population of our planet tripled, but water consumption increased 7 times! Meanwhile, today more than 2 billion people suffer from a shortage of drinking water, and by 2025, according to scientists, this amount will increase to 3.2 billion.

As you can see, the problem is extremely acute. And therefore, World Water Day since 1993 is celebrated in many countries of the world. Every year, the holiday is dedicated to a certain aspect. So, in 1995, the theme "Water and Women" was considered, in 2004, natural disasters associated with water were analyzed, and in 2011 they reflected on what role it plays in the life of cities.

2013 World Water Day was dedicated to international cooperation in this area. Indeed, sane people on the planet have long understood that coping with a problem is possible only through joint efforts. What activities are typical for the festival of water resources? Scientific conferences, film screenings are held, important documents are accepted, schools organize exhibitions of thematic posters and drawings, class hours, tours to specialized enterprises (water supply, sewage treatment plants, and so on).

Go to the pool, conduct experiments with various fluids, prepare a thematic quiz and “wet” contests. Do not forget to remind each other about the need to save water resources. A lot depends on each of us!
