Boot lacing: simple, complex, sophisticated and breathtaking

Just one lace, six pairs of holes and the usual lacing of shoes. Do you know how many different ways this lacing exists? More than the stars in our galaxy - 400 billion! However, some mathematicians claim that this number, taking into account all the most incredible options, is slightly less than two trillion! In theory. In practice, as they say, “total” 43,200 options are confirmed. If you tie the shoelaces every day in a new way, these methods will last for 118 years with a ponytail ...

Winter boot lacing

However, only a few answer their main task, which consists of three points:

  • pulling together two halves of shoes;
  • ensuring tightening and relaxing the lacing without a significant investment of time and effort;
  • preservation of form and beautiful appearance.

Let's try to describe the most relevant ways of lacing shoes.

Cross (traditional)

The most common method. The boot is laced from the outside to the inside. This is also a gentle option: the lacing that appears on the shoe does not rub the foot.

Inside out

A decorative method, hiding the ends inward. Also a gentle option, but for the laces themselves: their wear is reduced.

European (ladder)

It is laced through a series of holes, because of which the crossing point is located with an offset either to the left or to the right of the center line. It looks neat, with the exception of the beginning of lacing, which has an absurd appearance.

Direct (fashionable)

Boot lacing

It is also laced through a row, but no longer crossing, but strictly perpendicular to the center line. Neat but tricky and requires an even number of holes.

With a hidden knot

The option of straight lacing with the left end is slightly longer than the right. This allows you to tie them with a knot located inside the boot. Shoes "without a knot" look beautiful, but cause discomfort to the owner.

Direct (light)

One string enters the bottom hole, runs along the bottom and leaves the top, after which it is pulled to the other side and laced into all holes perpendicular to the center line.

For the forest

The ends of the laces with this method should come out of the holes one above the other on the outer half of the boot. Lace up through a row, as with fashionable lacing. This allows you to tie a knot on one side. Such shoe lacing is asymmetric and does not look good, but the pulling is balanced and the risk of hooking on branches and driftwood is reduced.

Butterfly

Methods for lacing shoes

Crossing laces over the boot alternates with passes under the halves. Crosses pull them together; omissions partially free the leg. This method allows you to use relatively short shoelaces.

Military

Option opposite to the previous one: crosses are located inside. It got its name because such shoe lacing is practiced by members of the armed forces.

With nodes

Instead of crossing, halves of the lace are interconnected, forming an additional knot twisted by a spiral. This is a durable lacing of winter boots for skis, skates and skates.

There is also a great many absolutely breathtaking patterns in which both two-color shoelaces and two shoelaces of different colors are involved. Each such option is an individual creative. As you can see, shoe lacing, made in the most unusual way, can simply and cheaply make something absolutely outstanding from your shoes.
