“Skyrim” is a game, every corner of which has been thoroughly studied by many fans of the series, but at the same time steadily holding on to high lines of game ratings. Numerous creators of mods made a serious contribution to this, since the game fully supports custom add-ons. At the same time, many players sometimes have problems not so much with installing add-ons as with launching the game with all available modifications. We are talking about situations in which the "Files" button does not work in the "Skyrim" launcher, which is responsible for the list of mods installed in the game. There are many ways to get rid of this problem.
Game Launcher Change
As you know, the most appropriate means for installing mods in Skyrim are special utilities (ModOrganizer or NexusModManager) that do perfectly without the launcher built into the game, since the modification files can activate and launch the game itself. Thanks to these programs, many players have never encountered the problem of an inactive menu section.
Reboot the Steam client
Failures of the Steam client operation algorithms sometimes lead to the fact that the file button does not work in the basic Skyrim launcher. But you just have to close the client, disconnect, and then start it all over again, as the problem disappears by itself. Of course, the method will only help users who have purchased a game license key.
Making changes to the configuration file
If for one reason or another the player does not use a third-party program, then the launcher needs to be helped to find the installed mods again. To do this, open the directory on the computer where Skyrim stores saves (save files). If the user has not changed the location of the My Documents folder, the My Games directory will be there. And already in it, inside the Skyrim folder, you should open the SkyrimPrefs.ini file (the standard Notepad will handle this) and edit it by adding "bEnableFileSelection = 1 "under the line [Launcher]. Close the file, save the changes, and then put the" Read-only "attribute on it so that the game doesn’t even think again to undo it.
Registry Edit
It is recommended to combine with the actions described in the previous paragraph.
After opening the registry editor, in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE block, you need to expand the SOFTWARE \ Wow6432Node \ Bethesda Softworks \ Skyrim subkeys sequentially, and then enter the correct path to the game folder in the Installed Path string parameter.
Game Reset
If the "Files" button does not work in the "Skyrim" launcher, in the settings, even after all the described manipulations, most likely there is a syntax error inside the game’s system files, or they are simply damaged. In this case, all files (not folders!) In the "My Documents \ MY Games \ Skyrim" directory must be deleted. When you start the game will restore them with default settings.
