Maine Coon: a big and kind domestic lynx

Probably every owner of a cat or cat at least once called his pet “my domestic lynx”. But probably not so much because the cat really looks like this animal, but because it has the unique ability to "trot" around the entire apartment, knocking down cacti from window sills and at the same time peeling furniture with wallpaper. Yes, cats - they are, especially in their youth: their predatory tendencies sometimes infuriate us very much, but we forgive them anyway. How can you not forgive this impudent face, which, pretending to be guilty, looks so penetratingly into your eyes and rubs lovingly on your legs? And if this face is three times larger than the standard?

It is the owners of such a chic “physiognomy” belonging to the Maine Coon breed that are real domestic lynxes. This amazing breed, which is also known as the American raccoon cat, was bred more than a hundred years ago. Breeders and counted on the fact that these cats will be very large, hardy and very beautiful. Domestic cat lynx develops rather slowly. Her maturity comes only closer to 4-5 years. Males by this age can reach a weight of 15 kg, females - a little less. Maine Coon, despite its gigantic size for a domestic cat, is very good-natured and gentle. His temper is much milder than that of a smaller brother. The voice of Maine Coon is different from the usual cat's distinct, vibrant vibration. But the representatives of this breed meow very rarely, only if necessary, giving voice, shortly and gently.

The domestic lynx is distinguished not only by its dimensions, but also by the shape of its head and body, and the texture of its wool. Her head is slightly elongated, her cheekbones are high, and her profile is slightly curved. The ears are large, wide at the base, set high and well pubescent inside. Characteristic tassels on the ears give a special charm to this cat, just like a real lynx. Her neck is of medium length, the body itself is long, with a wide chest. The length of the tail is equal to the length of the body.

Most Maine Coon owners rightly believe that this domestic lynx is simply the perfect animal: excellent external data, hairless care, a dedicated character, funny habits ... Moreover, these cats get along well not only with people, but also with dogs, ferrets and other pets.

What do these wonderful animals eat? Of course, food does not suit them from the master's table. Maine Coon should have a lot of protein in its diet, so it’s best to give it meat. Raw is fine (beef or chicken breast). But boiled can also be given, preferably adding vegetables and cereals to it in a ratio of 1: 2, of which two parts are meat. If your domestic lynx loves offal such as liver, lungs, heart, you can also give them, but they must first be frozen in the freezer. After the products thaw, it is recommended to boil them or at least scald them with boiling water. In no case should you give cold or hot food: food for the cat should be at room temperature. Please note that in a cat with a light color, with constant use of the liver, the hair may turn yellow.

So that your beautiful domestic lynx has strong bones, give it calcium-containing foods. This can be high-quality cottage cheese (it can be given once a week), fermented baked milk, kefir, yogurt (a little more often). In small quantities, you can occasionally treat the cat with cheese. As for milk, in adults it is not absorbed very well and can cause a disorder. The cat should always have fresh water. But you do not need to boil it, because if after boiling it he drinks raw water, he may have digestive problems. It is best to pour him ordinary filtered water.

Having acquired such a cat, you will get a very affectionate, loyal, sociable, calm and loving friend who will cause a storm of positive emotions and admiration for everyone who sees him at least once.
