The epsilon symbol is often used in the exact sciences to denote a variety of quantities. Therefore, it sometimes has to be inserted into the printed text. The main problem is the lack of a corresponding character on the keyboard. What to do? How to print "epsilon" and other letters of the Greek alphabet in Windows text editors? In this article, the best solutions to this problem will be proposed. The absence of a character on the keyboard panel does not mean the impossibility of typing it in the text. The main thing is to know how to act in a particular case.
We use copying
The epsilon symbol is considered to be a special symbol. It is not used for basic text printing.
To insert the appropriate character in the document, you will have to perform the following manipulations:
- open the "Start";
- go to the "All Programs" - "Standard" menu, then go to the "Utilities" folder;
- click LMB on the inscription "Symbol Table";
- find the epsilon in the window that appears. To facilitate the search, you can set the value "Greek characters" in the item "Set";
- double-click on the image of the symbol we need;
- Select it in the “For Copy” window;
- Press Ctrl + C;
- open the text where you want to insert the icon and position the cursor in one place or another;
- Press Ctrl + V.
At this stage, actions can be completed. The epsilon symbol appears on the display at the indicated location.
Similarly, you can find on the web a finished file with the corresponding sign, then select it, copy and paste into your text. Only this is not the best solution.
Functions of the Word
The epsilon symbol in Word can be written differently in any version. The built-in options of a text editor come to the rescue.
To use them, you need to carry out the following manipulations.
- enter MS Word;
- open the menu item "Insert" or switch to the corresponding tab in the application;
- go to the “Symbol” submenu (sometimes this section is signed as “Special insert” or “Special symbol”);
- A window will appear on the screen copying the “Table of Symbols” from the “Standard”, then you will find the sign (in our case, it is the “epsilon” symbol, a real icon that can be found in the corresponding set of elements).
- double click on the selected symbolics;
- close the "Character table" menu.
A special symbol will appear on the PC display in the indicated “space”. This solution is in great demand, especially among novice PC users. The reception does not require any skills, knowledge or special skills.
Codes and insertion
The epsilon symbol cannot be found on the keyboard. Nevertheless, each user is able to type it using the keyboard panel. It is enough to use the so-called ASCII code. Using appropriate sets of numbers, users can insert any special character into their text document in a few seconds.
How to act? The manual for using ASCII for printing the Greek alphabet has this design.
- Go to your text editor. In our case, it is the Word.
- Press the Alt button on the keyboard.
- Keeping the key pressed, dial the ASCII code. If you want to insert the epsilon symbol in the text, you have to type 949. This combination is responsible for the lowercase Greek letter. It is she who is used in formulas.
- Release the pressed keys.
“Ε” is printed in the text at the place indicated in advance. This technique greatly simplifies life. With it, the user can get rid of the need to search for a special character in the "Symbol Table" of Windows.
Hexadecimal code
The epsilon symbol can be printed using Unicode. This approach to solving the problem greatly facilitates the process of typing. The main thing is to know how to use this technique.
To put the Greek letter “epsilon” in “Word”, you will need:
- type in the place of printing the character combination 3B5;
- simultaneously hold Alt and X on the keyboard.
Important: when using the technique, you must use Latin letters. Otherwise, the code will not pass the processing stage.
