In fact, this holiday is not marked in red on our calendar, except that this calendar includes notes about all professional holidays and, in principle, is made in red. Without jokes, Architect's Day is the most professional holiday of narrowly focused specialists, which is celebrated all over the world.
The history of the "Architect's Day" holiday dates back to the day the International Union of Architects (ISA) was founded. The English name of this organization is International Union of Architects (UIA), and it was founded as an international and non-governmental community immediately after the end of World War II. Today, its members are 124 national architecture sections, including more than a million professional architects worldwide.
So, the founding date of the ISA is September 1946, the location is London, UK. An international meeting of architects was held here, including delegates from the then friendly Soviet Union. Unanimously, the members supported the decision to create the “International Union”, however, the organization was officially registered in Lausanne, Switzerland, in 1948.
The purpose of the association, and with it the holiday "Architect's Day", was to create favorable conditions for the life of mankind, increase the functionality of the artistic and technical qualities of structures, buildings, monuments, preserve the cultural and historical heritage. Once every two years, a general assembly is convened in Paris, and the President is re-elected, which, incidentally, in 1972 was a delegate from the USSR Georgy Orlov.
But back to the holiday: Architect Day appeared forty years after the creation of the organization itself, in 1985. The date was also determined unanimously: the first Monday of July.
Already in 1986, in Barcelona, the International Union of Architects held its 20th anniversary general assembly, in the framework of which a resolution was adopted to celebrate such an event as World Architect Day. Moreover, the date was postponed to the first Monday of October - apparently, the vacation season did not suit everyone.
How is this event celebrated? The official part is the annual gatherings and conferences of specialists in their industry, at which the results of the activity are reviewed, creative fruitful discussions are organized and global projects for the next year are proposed. Moreover, each time a new theme is set for the holiday: for example, in 2013 the motto was a rather lengthy phrase “City-space for sharing”. How the masters will respond to the given format - we will see in the near future.
Summing up, I would like to note that the International Architect Day is not so imperceptible: the role of architects in the history of mankind, the development of progress and modern conveniences is underestimated. Both the cultural heritage and the safety of the city and country depend on professionalism and the ability to prove one’s point of view and put forward one’s own project. This is one of the most ancient arts, the development framework of which has not yet seen the limit.
