Hunters are well aware that in order for a dog to work effectively in any weather, it is necessary that its coat is dense and thick, with undercoat, and its integumentary hair is tough and moisture-resistant. This will protect the animal from serious injuries when working in a dense shrub or undergrowth.
It was these goals that were pursued when the wire-haired dachshund was brought out. The first information about experiments with their breeding dates back to 1797. In the second half of the 19th century, there were already three varieties known today that were distinguished by their coat, including wire-haired dachshund.
