Dragon screams in Skyrim, known as the Power of the Voice or Tu'um - a kind of magic that is subject only to the Dragonborn. These phrases release a huge charge of power that can throw, disarm or destroy opponents, as well as calm animals or make the player immune to damage. In this small guide you will learn all about how to find, discover and use the Words of Power.
How to open and use dragon shouts in Skyrim
In total, the main character can learn 20 Tu'um, each of which consists of 3 Words of Strength. The more phrases invested in dragon shouts, the stronger the spell.
You will open some Tu'um while passing the main storyline, others will have to be searched. To do this, you need to find the Wall of Power, on which are written the words from the dragon's tongue in the form of runes. Stand for 2–3 seconds to study it. But engulfing the word is only the beginning. Before using it, you need to spend the soul of a flying monster. Now, to make dragon cries, just select the appropriate spell and press Z.
Where to find the Words of Power
You can find out about the location of Walls in many ways. Sometimes a letter will be delivered to you stating the source of the Force. After reading the note in the location, a marker will appear and it will be easy to get to it.
If you do not want to wait, you can find out about new locations at Argeyr - the leader of the Greybeards. The character will be happy to share information about the Walls of Words. Quest Force Words
Even if you do not want to search for the Walls and use the magic of voice, some dragon cries will have to be studied while passing the storyline. The first thing you will find out is the word "Storm" by Tu'uma "Swift Jerk." The Graybeards will tell you about him when completing the quest “The Way of the Voice”. Thanks to this scream, you can travel long distances in a second.
The second word "Rage" you will find in the location of the Uplitude, hidden in the south-west of Solitude. This place can be reached by completing the quest “Set Fire” from the College of Bards. The last word "Whirlwind" is located in the location of Volskigge, located north of the Forest Stronghold. There is no assignment to this place, so you have to look for it yourself.
Graybeards will teach you the words “Balance” and “Push” of the cry of “Ruthless Power”. This scream will help repel opponents by several meters. You will recognize the last spell phrase in the Windy Peak dungeon. This location is located west of Riverwood. You can get here when completing the mission of the same name from Jarl Whiterun, or completing the quest "Golden Claw", which you will take from a local merchant.
The following dragon screams - Dragon Dragon, Call of the Dragon and Clear Sky - are only needed during the storyline. You will recognize them instantly, without spending on discovering the soul of flying monsters. They are not useful in the rest of the game, so they are not worth the close attention.
The last quest Tu'um is the Call of Valor. The spell summons the hero of Sovngard, who will come to your aid in battle. This word will be taught to you in the quest "Dragonfighter".
Fire magic
Want to deal maximum damage to enemies? Be sure to learn the Dragon Cry of Fire Breath. This Tu'um makes you a real monster, because when you read the words a pillar of flame breaks out of your throat. To find spells, visit the Shattered Gorge location that is in Falkrit's possession. The cave is hidden by the trap of the Drowning Grotto.
You will find the following phrase in Ancient Cairn. The hero will fall into this location when completing quests from the Companions guild. The last word of the scream is written on a wall located on top of the Throat of the World. The main storyline of quests will lead you here.
Freezing magic
One of the most useful dragon shouts in Skyrim is Ice Form. Thanks to this Tu'um, you can turn several opponents into frozen blocks, which is very useful in battle. But for this you will have to find all three phrases of the spell. You will read the first one on Mount Antor, located south of Winterhold. Learn the second phrase in Saartal. You can get into this dungeon when completing the quest from the Mages Guild. The last word is hidden in the location of Frostmir, which is located in the southwest of Dunstar.
Another “winter” spell is Frost Breath. This scream deals cold damage, and is very useful against fiery creatures. The phrases of Tu'um are hidden in the following locations: Altar of the Sky-Born, Folguntur, Skeletal Comb.

In addition to fighting Tu'um, the game has several dragon shouts that will help with the passage of the main and additional tasks. These include:
- Ethereal. Tu'um makes the hero invulnerable to any damage. The first word of this scream you will find in the location Ustengrev (quest "Horn of Jurgen"). The second is hidden in the Iron Mound cave, located west of Windhelm. The latter you will find out in Lost Valley Stronghold.
- Harmony Keane. A scream helps calm animals. Spell phrases are hidden in the locations of Rangwald, Abode Rannweig and Mound of Burial Fire.
- Voice cast. Tu'um forces opponents to search for a sound source. All three words of the scream are written on a wall hidden at the Two-Headed Peak. This mountain is located north of the Fellglow Fortress.
- Friendship with animals. Spells summons wild creatures that will protect your hero. Phrases of screaming you will find in the location of the course of the Ancients, Hangarwund, Tomb of Isgram.
- Slowing down time. This word “freezes” everything around, which gives you the opportunity to escape or gain an advantage in battle. Find the first phrase in the Witch's Nest, the second is written on the wall located in the Labyrinthian. The last part of the spell you will find in the cave of Corvanyund.
- Fright. Shouting a spell is horrifying to opponents. You will find phrases in the locations Height Bitten Tongue, Shalidor's Labyrinth, Old Lady's Rock.
- Disarmament. This scream will knock out weapons from your opponents. Spell phrases you will find at the Peak of the Ancients, in the Silver Lair and the location of the Snow Veil - Sanctuary.
- Death sentence. Tu'um makes enemies weaker and more vulnerable to weapons or spells. To open the words of the cry, visit the locations Autumn Watchtower, Forgotten Cave, Shelter of the Dark Brotherhood.
- Whispers of Aura. When reading, you can see all the living creatures that are near you. Phrases are located in the locations of North Wind Top, Valtum, Volundrud.
- Elemental rage. This spell increases the strike speed of your weapon. To study it, go to the Dragon Tooth Crater, and then to the Screaming Wind bastion. The last phrase is on the wall near the Statue of Meridia.
It is not necessary to search for the words of the dragon cries in the order indicated on this list. After all, phrases are activated independently of each other. Therefore, plan your search for the Wall of Words so that nothing distracts you from the adventure.
