In the stories of the beginning of the 19th century, sleds are often mentioned. At that time, this word was very common, but now not even every adult can say with confidence what it is. And modern children are all the more so.

Of course, not the peasants could afford such a transport. Such sledges were available only to the children of wealthy merchants or nobles. Thus, the sled is not just a means of transportation on ice and snow, but also an indicator of the status of the child.
Other words were formed from the name of this vehicle: for example, the master engaged in the production of such sleds was called a sled. Glide on ice, on rolled snow - "climb".
In addition, some field sled for field work was used - a kind of cultivator of land after sowing, woven from brushwood in the shape of a broom.

Oddly enough, the fashion for this type of sled is returning. Now the sled is a closed wooden sled, made as before by hand. There are few masters who are ready to make such a winter toy for a child, but still they appear. And again, you can find simple wooden sledges, or you can painted with various painting techniques or decorated in a different way.
