Police Day: history and modernity

Police Day in Russia is a professional holiday that is dedicated exclusively to law enforcement in the Russian Federation. However, this version of the name has sunk into oblivion: now it sounds like "Day of the Ministry of Internal Affairs." This is due to a number of reforms undertaken by the government in 2011 to increase the efficiency of the police, including the renaming from β€œpolice” to β€œpolice”.

Among other things, the policemen changed their uniform, which, according to media reports, was liked by law enforcement officers.

On the first day of spring 2011, the Law β€œOn Police” began to operate in the Russian Federation, which implied the creation of a new police structure, which was replenished by those law enforcement officers who successfully passed re-certification. At the same time, a number of traditions remained untouched: for example, the Russian president endorsed a decree on the celebration of the professional day of police officers on the same day as before.

When is police day celebrated in Russia?

This day is celebrated on the tenth of November in the country. Until the ninety-first year, this holiday in Russia was called the Day of Soviet Police, and after the collapse of the USSR, until 2011 - the Day of Russian Police.

It was on November 10 that the Russian policemen performed their dress in full uniform, which indicates the high importance for them of respectful attitude of the public to their specific activities.

Police Day in Russia has a rich history. It all began at the end of September 1962, together with the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR: it was then that the professional holiday of the police began to be celebrated for the first time.

In 1980, this day became an official holiday, which favorably influenced the spirit of the defenders, because now the public’s attention to the patriotic activities of the police has increased significantly. The respectful attitude of society towards such structures in the state is one of the most important components of a healthy and patriotic society.

When is transport police day celebrated in Russia?

The transport police is the most important structural unit of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, since it ensures the observance of the rule of law on air, land and water transport lines. Firstly, the transport police exercises control in these areas, secondly, it fights crime, and thirdly, it organizes the protection of public order.

So, Police Day, which is dedicated to the "transport" unit, is held on February 18. This is not a random date, chosen at random, but timed to the event of 1919, when the All-Russian Central Executive Committee approved the interdepartmental commission for the protection of the railway. This event has become predetermined, and is understood by historians as the first step towards the creation of a transport police.

At first it was created to protect the railways. Law enforcement advocates prevented smuggling and other illegal activities that took place on the railway lines.

Then, life itself made adjustments to the purpose of the transport police: for example, the order approving the transport police for air transport was approved only in 1971, when it became necessary. In the same year, the struggle of the transport police against terrorism in air transport began after N. Kurchenko (stewardess) prevented the hijacking of an airplane with her heroic act, paying for it with her life.

"Water" police appeared for the first time in Moscow before the Olympics-80 and was appointed in order to monitor compliance with the rule of law in the waters of the Moscow River.

Thus, Police Day is a very important component of honoring the specifics of the activities of law enforcement agencies, it allows society to recall that at present there are brave people who are worried about protecting civilians.
