Arithmetic logic unit (ALU) - what is it?

As you know, a computer processor consists of four basic components: an arithmetic logic device, an input / output module, as well as memory and control units. This architecture was identified in the last century and, despite the fact that a lot of time has passed, the classical structure of von Neumann remains relevant.

What is ALU?

Arithmetic-logical device is one of the components of the processor, which is necessary for the implementation of transformations of the logical and arithmetic type, starting with elementary and ending with complex expressions. The length of the operands used is considered to be the word length, or size.
