Black Spitz is a daring extrovert, a glorious and devoted doggie. These babies are smart, easily trained and love to please their masters.
Breed history
Today it is difficult to imagine that this charming creature with a cute face, which is a black spitz, came from hardy and large northern dogs. But, most researchers of this breed believe that this is so - the ancestors of the Pomeranian Spitz really lived on the territory of the northern countries. For example, in Switzerland they lived in the Neolithic era.
Some scholars believe that states such as ancient China, and possibly Egypt, can be the historical homeland of Spitz. They cite as evidence of their version images of dogs similar to Spitz, which were found on household items and cultures of the peoples of these countries. However, supporters of the version of the northern origin of the breed have slightly more reliable arguments.
The Germans showed the greatest interest in Spitz in the Middle Ages. In the 15th century, they already bred Spitz, who were first given the name "Spitzhund." Their appearance was very reminiscent of modern representatives of the breed.
Work on the breed in Germany
It took place in different centers of medieval Germany and led to the fact that in the XVIII century a breed was formed that quickly gained popularity. Some experts are sure that the dog handlers of the German city of Württemberg played the most important role in the development of the Pomeranian spitz breed, while others unconditionally present the Pomeranian palm. In this city, the breeding of such dogs was not even done by Germans, but by Finns. However, traditionally the dog breeders of Germany are considered to be the creators of the Pomeranian spitz breed.
Later, the breed was divided into two varieties: Pomeranian and German Spitz, which differ somewhat in appearance. Unlike the “fox” of the orange, the German Spitz is a “teddy bear” with a round muzzle.
Black Pomeranian: breed description
These babies are dwarf species of Spitz. The Russian Federation approved the standard, which was adopted by the international federation FCI. In America, there is a standard of its own according to which the height of the Spitz at the withers is 26 cm. The FCI standard allows the growth of these dogs no more than 22 cm.
The case has a square format - the height corresponds with a length of 1: 1. The constitution is strong and dry, decorative elegance is combined with well-developed muscles.
The head is small, the muzzle is short, tapering, a bit like a fox. The muzzle corresponds to the skull as 2: 4.
Black Spitz has a black nose. The lips, which fit tightly to the jaws, are also painted.
Oblongly shaped eyes. The expression of the eyes is lively, which gives these charming babies a perky look.
Ears of a triangular shape, erect, with a sharp top, are located quite close to each other.
The neck is strong, medium length, covered with a thick collar resembling a mane.
The back is strong, short and straight. It ends with a magnificent tail, which covers part of the back. The tail is of medium length, covered with thick hair, set rather high and at the base turned up and forward - it seems to lie on its back, like a magnificent fan.
Forelegs are straight. The shoulder blades are long, directed back. The shoulders are muscular, tight to the chest. The forearms are straight and stocky, downy on the back.
Paws well-assembled, small, round in shape. Paw pads are black. The only exceptions are animals with a brown color - they have brown ones.
The hind limbs are more massive, the legs and thighs are approximately the same in length. They are parallel and straight. The hocks are covered with hair.
Wool
German Spitz (black), like Pomeranian, has a luxurious fur coat. His hair consists of two types of hair: long integumentary hair and thick, like a cotton undercoat. The hair is short on the head and ears, as well as on the front legs. On the shoulders and neck is a lush and fluffy collar. On the hind legs - voluminous pants.
Colors
Despite the fact that the topic of our article is Pomeranian black, we will briefly dwell on what other colors these animals have.
White color implies that the animal’s coat is completely white, without any shades of other colors. All deviations are recognized as marriage.
The black Spitz must have a lacquer-black coat, without marks of another color. Any inclusions are a disqualifying factor for experts. Black Spitz puppies may have a brownish undercoat at birth. If the ancestors of a different color were in the black dog’s family, then it is likely that a puppy born black will change color after molting.
Brown Spitz must have a uniformly dark brown coat. The darker it is, the better.
Black and tan spitz has distinct marks. They can be of different colors. For example, the red marks on the front of the chest, throat, on the legs allow you to say that in front of you is a black-red spitz. The saturation of the marks can vary from cream to red-red. Black and tan spitz can also have fawn marks.
Character
German Black Spitz is a charming animal with a friendly character. Delicate and defenseless this doggie only seems to be brave in his soul and longs for exploits and adventures. Therefore, it should not be considered a sofa dog. Black Spitz will not lie on the couch day and night. He needs a walk with his beloved master.
However, at home dwarf Spitz is black and playful active. This kid receives special pleasure upon hearing the command of the owner of the “aport”. In the same second, he rushes after a stick or a toy.
Black dwarf Spitz is not so kind as it seems at first glance - he is distrustful of strangers and is unlikely to allow them to stroke a beautiful coat. Undoubtedly, this is not a service dog, but sometimes it behaves as if it does not understand that its size does not allow you to rush to the attack.
Why does the Spitz bark a lot?
Often the owners talk about the tendency of these animals to bark. You should know that your pet's barking is not unreasonable, it makes sense, like the cry of a small child, and the owner’s task is to understand what the pet is “talking” about.
Which spitz does the owner need?
Most dog breeders believe that black spitz is the perfect companion for any person. This is not true. Spitz needs a lot of exercise. These are long (at least 1.5 hours) walks, as well as active games. If long walks are impossible for you, get ready for the baby to be active at home. He is always ready to run, frolic and jump. Therefore, Spitz is unlikely to be a good companion for an elderly and not very healthy person.
Negative character traits
Black Spitz has some not so good character traits. These include stubbornness and self-will. Therefore, despite the high level of intelligence, they are not always easy to learn. Especially negatively they relate to static commands that are associated with a state of rest: “Lie down! Sit!"
In addition, they tend to dominate other animals. Do not be surprised if your little Spitz plans to subordinate a huge shepherd to his will. Probably, long-term attention to this royal breed played a role.
Spitz prefer to always be in the spotlight. To avoid this, early socialization is necessary. If at the moment the puppy appears in the house other pets already live there, then there will be no problems. But if you decide to have another pet and bring it to a growing Spitz, then most likely your baby will show character and will in every way trample the legal rights of the new tenant. The same can be said about the attitude towards children: Spitz love them, are ready to play with them day and night, but only when they are familiar with them from puppyhood.
But do not be afraid of these behavioral difficulties. They are fully compensated by the ability of this furry baby to give joy and love to the owner. These little fidgets are very attached to the person and strive to always be near him. They are very sad when they are left alone at home. But when the owner returns, the Spitz compensate their loneliness with increased attention.
He will follow you on his heels, sit at your feet when you cook, watch TV very carefully, sitting comfortably on your hands, and even lie down at his master’s bed. Everyone who wants to have such a baby needs to know that this is a true friend who will always strive to take part in all your affairs.
Where to buy a puppy?
It should be understood that no self-respecting breeder will sell puppies at the bird market or bus stop. Puppies that are sold this way can be overbought without documents, and puppy cards will most likely not be genuine. At the same time, no one will give you any guarantees that the puppies have been examined by a veterinarian, treated with helminth preparations and received vaccinations necessary for their age. There is also no guarantee that the puppy belongs to this breed, and not just very similar to the Spitz.
Therefore, if you want a thoroughbred dwarf spitz (black) to appear, contact a club, specialized nursery or a well-known breeder. In this case, you will get a healthy animal.
