Dust and dirt
The first reason why numbers do not work on the keyboard is dust or dirt getting under the buttons. This problem is most often common among those who like to eat at the computer and do not particularly monitor the cleanliness in the room where the PC is located. But even if you are not one of them, the keyboard still has the ability to accumulate dust and debris inside the case. This is a completely normal situation, so do not be surprised.
The keyboard is recommended to periodically disassemble and clean, so that it does not clog too much. Otherwise, excessive accumulation of dust and dirt inside can lead to the fact that on one “fine” day the keys will stop working on the device, and not necessarily all at once, but, for example, some separate ones, such as arrows or numbers.
Cleaning the keyboard is nothing complicated. First you need to take a photo of the device on the phone so as not to forget the location of all the buttons. After that, use a thin screwdriver to remove all the keys from the grooves. Next, unscrew the screws from the back and disassemble the case. All the insides and parts of the body must be washed in water with dissolved shampoo or soap. Extreme care must be taken when cleaning a large transparent "circuit" on which there are tracks for buttons. It is enough just to wipe it with a slightly damp cloth.
As soon as all the parts have been washed, they must be left to dry, and when they are dry, you can proceed to the assembly in its original state. Everything is simple!
Liquid spills on the keyboard
The second reason why numbers do not work on the keyboard is moisture getting into the device. Surely many faced such a nuisance when tea, coffee, a glass of water or any other drink accidentally spilled on the keyboard. Some do not betray this, they say, modern keyboards have waterproof properties. It seems to be so, but whatever the keyboard, spilled liquid can harm it.
At first, everything will probably work properly, but after some time problems may appear, for example, the buttons stop working when pressed or the keys get stuck. These are consequences of spilled liquids and user inaction.
All that can be advised to do in this situation is to disassemble the keyboard and wash it thoroughly. Often this is enough. If the cleaning did not help, and the buttons do not respond to pressing, you will have to buy new peripherals.
Membrane wear
Another reason why numbers do not work on the keyboard is membrane wear. This problem often affects cheap devices and those that have been used for a long time. The fact is that inside the keyboard there are membranes made of silicone material. It is thanks to them that the buttons are pressed, after which one or another symbol appears on the computer screen.
However, it happens that the membrane can break if it is made originally with a marriage or simply poor quality. If the user works with the keyboard a lot and for a long time, this can also affect the membrane damage.
What can be done if the membrane is damaged? There are 2 options. The first is just to buy a new keyboard. The second is to disassemble the device, remove the membrane and try to fix it with glue, for example.
Disabled Num Lock
Considering the issue of idle numbers, it is worth mentioning why the numbers on the right keyboard, or, as it is also called, the numeric unit, do not work. If for some reason the numbers on the right side no longer respond to clicks, then do not panic, just check if the Num Lock key is active. Check it out easily. If in the upper right part the first of the three bulbs is off, then Num Lock is off, the numbers will not work.
To make it work again, you just need to click on the Num Lock button.
Keyboard breakage
And the last reason why the numbers on the top or right do not work on the keyboard is the breakdown of the periphery. In the production process, a lot of defects happen, because of which often keyboards start to work incorrectly, arrows, numbers, F1-F12 keys stop pressing, etc. Over time, the device completely fails and cannot be repaired, alas.
Therefore, the only thing that can be advised in this situation is to buy a new keyboard.
