Architectural Font for Word: Installation

Various documentation and specifications require a special type of font. Usually this is established by GOST, that is, the text should be written exclusively according to the rules. Writing in accordance with GOST is regulated by a special document in which font parameters are prescribed. So, for example, for drawings, a specific state standard is used, which specifically sets the size of the text. Architectural drawings apply their own rules for writing text, which differ in that the letters are slightly narrower than in ordinary drawings. The architectural font is somewhat simpler than the drawing font, since there is no slope of the text.

What is a font?

This is a simplified version of the Grotesque font, as it is fairly easy to write. There are no serifs and other elements that complicate the writing of the text. The architectural font takes as its basis the Grotesque font, only twice as narrow, and also several times thinner.

One of the main advantages, in addition to ease of spelling, is the severity of forms and excellent combination with the image. Also, reading text written in an architectural font is quite simple.

Font dimension

You need to deal with the layout of the letters in this font. Unlike the Grotesque, the area of each element and the space here is the same. This feature occurs in the case of the same height of the letters used. This font is very well suited specifically for architectural work, as its narrowness helps to fit letters or text anywhere in the document.

Architectural font in Word

The sizes of the architectural font are quite simple and do not require large calculations. The main formula that architects follow is S = 1/6 H, where H is the height of the element and S is the width of the normal letters.

For wide letters, the formula is as follows: S shir = 1.5 S, where S shir is the width of the wide letters (Y, S, W, W, W, F, W).

As you can see, it is not necessary to use a dimensional table here, as in a drawing font, where everything is normalized. If the numbers and letters are the same size and they stand side by side, then you should be able to correctly match them.
