In the process of working with any documents, the user, unnoticed by himself, can leave unwanted spaces between words or numbers. There are many ways to remedy this situation. Let's consider them in the article.

How to remove spaces in Excel

Before starting, we note that the spaces themselves are different: between words, between numeric expressions, or at the beginning or end of a value. Accordingly, there is a separate method for eliminating each type. It is about them that we will talk now.

Method 1: Using the Replace Tool

If you accidentally set two spaces between words instead of one while working in a program, then without problems you can remove spaces in Excel using the Replace tool. Using it is quite simple:

  1. Click on the “Home” tab.

Method 2: remove spaces between digits

  1. In the table, select the area where unnecessary spaces are located.
  2. On the main page of the toolbar, click on the "Find and Replace" button and select the "Replace" tool.
  3. In the window that appears, this time you need to enter slightly different values.
  4. In the "Find" field, put one space.
  5. Leave the "Replace with" field intact.
  6. Click the Replace All button.
  7. Confirm your actions, read the report and accept it.

After that, you will find that the spaces between the numbers have disappeared, respectively, the task is completed.

Method 3: delete by formatting text

It is possible that using the above instructions to remove spaces in Excel did not give any results. At the same time, the program told you that there are simply no gaps. This happens only in one case - if spaces in numbers were set by formatting. In fact, this will not affect the operation of the formulas and everything else, but for some users it is very important that all numbers are written in a row without spaces. If you are one of them, then follow these instructions:

  1. Select the area of the table in the cells of which you want to remove the spaces between the numerical expressions.
  2. Click on the selection with the right mouse button.
  3. Select Cell Format.
  4. A corresponding window will appear in which go to the "Numeric" section, located in the "Number" tab.
  5. In the right part of the window, uncheck the "Separator of discharge groups" item.
  6. Click OK.

All the above methods are ineffective if you need to remove the spaces at the beginning or end of the value in Excel. However, the FAILS function perfectly copes with this.

  1. Place the cursor in the cell that is parallel to the column or row whose spaces you want to remove.
  2. Open the Function Wizard window by clicking on the corresponding button next to the function line.
  3. In the "Category" list, select "Text", and in the list with the list of functions, highlight "EXTRACT" and click "OK".
  4. A function input window will appear. In it you need to specify the cell in which you want to remove the spaces. To do this, simply click on it with the left mouse button.
  5. Click OK.
