Laptops have long established themselves as universal mobile devices for storing and transmitting data. Sometimes you need to move files from it to a desktop computer, phone, tablet or any other device. And then the question arises as to whether the system unit can be connected to a laptop. How to do it?
Connecting a laptop to the system unit using a local network
To find out how to connect a laptop to the system unit, first you need to purchase a cable with a two-way plug to the RJ-45 connector. Next, a local network is created between the two devices.
The next step in the instructions on how to connect a laptop to the system unit will be opening a window of the Network and Sharing Center. A guest network is selected that is under private. In it you need to find the tab "Advanced sharing options." Next, the item "Enable network discovery" is activated. Then you need to check the box "Enable file and printer sharing."
Using Remote Access
You can connect the system unit to a laptop using a special program to control another computer from a distance. The most stable and optimal program is TeamViever, which allows you to transfer data completely free of charge.
The program is quite easy to use, completely in Russian. In order to connect the laptop to the system unit remotely, you need to run the program, enter the necessary data and perform remote control. However, there is one caveat: this will require an Internet connection with a high data transfer rate.
HDMI connection
This method will help you figure out how to connect a laptop monitor to the system unit. First, you need a cable with a two-way HDMI output to connect to a laptop and system unit from the side of the video card.
Next, you need to turn on the laptop and check the automatic connection of the image. In the event that this does not happen, it is necessary to activate the determining action on the laptop using the key combination Fn + F4. This combination facilitates switching between monitors.
If this method also did not help, then in order to connect the laptop to the system unit as a monitor, you should open the computer control panel and select the "Screen" option. A column with functions will appear on the left, among which you will need to select "Screen Settings". If another screen does not appear, then click on the "Find" button.
After the screen has been found, in the tab "Multiple Screens" you need to find the item "Expand these screens." After that, you can freely use the laptop as a monitor for a stationary system unit.
USB cable connection
Connecting with a USB cable allows you to not only transfer information, but also take a desktop computer under control. However, only a USB Smart Link cable is suitable for connecting in this way, and a conventional two-way cable will not cope with this task.
A cable and an adapter are provided in the kit: for starters, you should connect them. After that, you need to find the necessary connector on the back of the system unit and connect the adapter to it.
The other end of the cable connects to the mobile computer. Next, the startup window will pop up on the laptop screen, where you need to select the "Run" option.
After that, you can configure the connection configuration and transfer data using the usual drag and drop. Information can be transmitted in two directions.
Connect using a twisted pair cable for an Internet cable
There are special crimped cables in computer electronics stores called twisted pair cables. Using this wire, two network cards are connected - a laptop and a system unit. The next step will be a software solution, performed by clicking the "Start" button. Next, select "Computer" and click on the context menu in the "Properties" option.
A window will open where the "Advanced system settings" function will be displayed on the left. In the "System Properties" window there is an item for changing the computer name, so you need to select it. You can give any name, and then give the name of the working group, marking this item in advance.
The following is a solution to the IP address problem, which starts at the Network and Sharing Center. In the window, in the left column, the tab "Change adapter settings" is selected. In the list you need to find a suitable network and right-click on it. Select the "Properties".
In the list that opens, there is the option "Internet Protocol Version 4", here you must again select the "Properties" option. There you will also find the point of using the proposed address, which you must enter yourself - 192.168.1.2, then the subnet mask 255.255.255.0.
The laptop should do the same, only the address will be slightly different - 192.168.1.3. After that, the connection will be made.
