A few years ago, many computer companies tried their hand at the chipset market and offered fairly competitive solutions at a very affordable price. One of such system sets was the NVidia GeForce 6100. Its technical characteristics, as well as possible cases of using this device, will be given later in this review.
The purpose of the chipset
The chipset for the NVidia GeForce 6100 motherboard was introduced in 2004. Initially, it was intended for the Socket 754 platform. But then its updated modifications for Socket 939 and even AM2 were released. Again, the minimum level of functionality and the presence of an integrated video card made it possible to assemble only office PCs based on such computer components.
Initially, NVidia specialized in the production of high-quality and high-performance graphics accelerators in a discrete format. But then this manufacturer of computer equipment decided to expand the range of products offered in order to increase profits. It was on this wave that the NVidia GeForce 6100 chipset appeared.
Given the fact that this chipset has very successfully existed within the framework of three AMD computer platforms, this experiment can be called successful. To date, manufacturers of processor systems have abandoned the practice of using chipsets from third-party systems. Therefore, this chipset is outdated today and certainly is not a relevant hardware component. In the framework of modern computer platforms, it is certainly not used.
Processor models
Initially, the NVidia GeForce 6100 / NForce 405 chipset, as noted earlier, was aimed at using the Socket 754 processor socket. Within its framework, Septron series chips and, of course, Athlon were released. Since this chipset had an office orientation, it worked in conjunction mainly with the first family of chips.
Similar two series of CPUs were also implemented as part of the Socket 939 processor socket. Again, the Athlon line had a high-performance specialization. Therefore, in conjunction with such a motherboard, only the very same Septron budget chips were used. The key difference from the previous Socket 754 platform in this case was that such processors in its framework worked in single-channel CPU mode, and for Socket 939 they are able to work in two-channel mode. That is, in the latter case, due to such a solution, a certain performance gain was obtained.
In the framework of AM2, the list of processors was supplemented by the Phenom family. But in practice, the same Septron with one computing unit, modest technical specifications and low clock speed were still installed in the socket of such a motherboard. But again, the speed of such CPUs was enough to implement undemanding office applications.
The relevance of the platform
Today, AMD device processors for AM4 are relevant. For this socket, there are only proprietary solutions from this manufacturer. Therefore, the NVidia GeForce 6100 / NForce 405 chipset is not relevant. Its technical characteristics are outdated and do not allow solving modern problems of the initial level. Therefore, the owners of personal computers, which are based on such a motherboard, should now upgrade the computing system.

The NVidia GeForce 6100/405 chipset had these advantages at the time of release:
- Low cost.
- Acceptable level of functionality.
- A good communication list that allows you to connect various peripheral solutions to the system board.
- High degree of reliability. Many such devices to this day continue to be actively used.
The disadvantages were experts and owners attributed to low productivity, the level of which allowed to realize only the simplest possible tasks. The second minus at the moment is that this chipset is outdated. That is, this computer platform has ceased to be relevant for quite some time.
Conclusion
The low-cost chipset for the NVidia GeForce 6100 motherboard by the standards of 2005-2007 was a really sought-after solution for office systems. But now this chipset is completely outdated. Its functionality is only enough for processing text documents. For something more, such a personal computer is not suitable. Their owners must urgently upgrade them.
